The League Education and Treatment Center (LETC), has been improving the lives of children and adults with emotional and developmental disabilities for over 60 years. The League’s Children’s Day Treatment Program (League School) provides high quality and cost effective mental health services responsive to the needs of children with emotional challenges.
The pre-doctoral psychology internship program was designed to reflect this mission and prepare interns to become clinicians and gain valuable hands-on experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with special needs in a structural and supportive environment. This program aims to foster the development of competent clinical practitioners, capable of functioning in a dynamic and challenging special needs school setting. The program’s primary objectives are to train interns to acquire the skills for collaborative work with other disciplines, to maintain high standards of professionalism and ethics, to gain competence in diagnosis and assessment and psychotherapeutic intervention, and to obtain skills in outcome assessment and program evaluation and development. The program is in the process of obtaining APPIC membership by the end of the internship year.
