Department Summary: ABOUTBSU: Founded in 1840, Bridgewater State University (BSU) is the 10th largest college or university, public or private, in Massachusetts. The past two decades has seen a transformation of the campus and strong growth in the student population. As of Fall 2017, BSU’s student body included 11,024 students, including 9,558 undergraduates, of whom 96 percent hail from Massachusetts. Over two-thirds of our undergraduate students are first-generation college students, students of color, and/or Pell grant eligible. Our graduate students represent a similar demographic; many are working, first-generation college students, and/or students of color.

ABOUTTHESCHOOL OF SOCIALWORK: The School of Social Work (SSW) at Bridgewater State University is a growing and dynamic part of a cohesive campus community that provides support for student success and professional opportunities for faculty advancement in teaching and scholarship. Housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, our BSW and MSW programs are both fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). The SSW is dedicated to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in its faculty and students, to promoting social justice, and reflects this emphasis in its curricular and co-curricular activities. SSW faculty are involved in research, scholarship, and service in regional and key campus initiatives that focus on social justice, institutional diversity, service-learning, the science of teaching and learning, mentoring and more. The Bridgewater State University SSW is known for its faculty’s real-world expertise, collaborative approach to teaching and learning, and capacity to provide support and mentoring to its students.
Position Summary: The Founding Associate Dean of the School of Social Work (SSW) is the academic and administrative leader of the SSW. As such, the Associate Dean will direct the team that assures that all students, faculty and staff of SSW are well supported. The Associate Dean will provide expertise and leadership for the enhancement and development of academic programming. The Associate Dean advances the School and University missions by manifesting the leadership required to achieve standards of excellence in instruction with measurable outcomes for faculty and students. The Associate Dean builds relationships and works collaboratively with University departments as well as external constituencies.
The Associate Dean is supervised by the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Deans of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Graduate Studies and the College of Continuing Studies.

Position Type: Professional Non-Unit
Essential Duties: 1. Provide creative leadership for the SSW in shaping the vision of the teaching, research, scholarship and service missions of the School. 2. Support the development and implementation of strategic planning for the SSW in order to examine how to best enhance existing programs, facilitate innovative curricular design and develop additional program models for our BSW, MSW and continuing education programs. 3. Develop and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (including but not limited to student and faculty recruitment, retention and success). 4. Coordinate planning at the strategic and operational levels in a manner that maintains and improves the overall effectiveness of the SSW. 5. Lead SSW administrative team and works collaboratively with Chair, BSW and MSW program coordinators and Director of Field Education. 6. Oversee and coordinate the faculty/staff search processes to identify and recruit a diverse pool of social work faculty and staff. 7. Identify and manage risk/ liability related to student performance. 8. Ensure full compliance with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards and is responsible for the reaffirmation of the BSW and MSW programs. 9. Encourage and support quality teaching and scholarship, as well as faculty and staff professional development. 10. Work to acquire new resources and appropriately allocate resources including faculty, support staff, budgets and space to support SSW initiatives. 11. Foster and maintain creative partnerships with other educational institutions, organizations and communities. 12. Develop and oversee the SSW’s operational and other budgets in collaboration with the SSW chair as well as the deans of College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) and College of Graduate Studies (COGS). 13. Represent the School to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the National Association of Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work (NADD), the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) as well as at college and regional events. 14. Report regularly to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences on all matters related to the SSW. 15. Work with the College of Graduate Studies to assess, refine, and promote the MSW program. 16. The Associate Dean supervises the support staff of the SSW. 17. The Associate Dean position may include additional responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications: 1. An earned doctoral degree in social work or a closely related field.
2. An earned Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited program.
3. A minimum of three years of experience in academic administration, such as department chairperson or program director.
4. College teaching at the rank of associate professor or higher.
5. Experience with CSWE accreditation, oversight of assessment systems and programs for continuous improvement.
6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and social justice.
7. Demonstrates sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
8. Applicants should have the abilities to work collaboratively and effectively, the ability to communicate clearly, and maintain good humor.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Possess breadth of experience in social work education to anticipate emerging professional and educational trends and opportunities.
2. Experience and commitment to public higher education.
3. Teaching experience in a SSW with BSW and MSW programs.
