The Perinatal Mood Disorder Specialist is a full time position reporting directly to the Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive support services to childbearing women who may be at higher risk for developing anxiety and depression during pregnancy and postpartum. This individual works collaboratively with healthcare providers, hospitals and community agencies, facilitates group support, and provides community outreach education throughout the Southern New Jersey region.
Provides direct support services to childbearing women who screen positive through the web-based EPDS process at participating healthcare provider ambulatory locations or via the telephone “warmline”
Creates an individualized plan of care with the at risk woman through assessment and triages the woman into the appropriate level of care
Provides counseling referral resources and follow up telephone support to meet the needs of childbearing women and families
Works collaboratively with staff at participating healthcare provider locations to ensure a positive outcome for the childbearing woman
Assists in establishing the model of support that can be sustainable in meeting the needs of childbearing women
Facilitates psycho-educational group support in underserved areas that promote emotional wellness for childbearing women
Participates in community outreach education with hospitals and agencies in the region
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Nursing or other Health-related field required. Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work preferred.
Expert assessment skills
Two years’ experience in the triage and referral process
Two years’ experience working with childbearing families in a perinatal or outreach setting
Two years’ experience in group support facilitation
Must present in a professional manner and be able to engage with a wide range of clients and professional associates
Ability to work independently and as a team member with good leadership, oral and written communication skills
Valid driver’s license, current insurance policy and car
