The Vice President (VP) of IT is responsible for providing direction and management of system wide information technology strategies for the Medical Group and works closely with peer and senior level management in the Medical Group to derive a detailed understanding of their business, infrastructure and human capital needs from a systems perspective. This position serves as the leader for other Medical Group IT management team members, prioritizing new projects and providing oversight to the project management teams to ensure consistent, timely implementation, and development of internal applications that support the clinical and financial needs of the Medical Group and demonstrate the RWJBH mission and vision. The VP of IT fosters the relationship between the Medical Group leadership and Corporate IT leadership to ensure systems are in place to ensure a high-quality and safe patient experience, adequate support for providers to deliver patient care, and productive and profitable operations.
The Vice President (VP) of IT is responsible for providing direction and management of system wide information technology strategies for the Medical Group and works closely with peer and senior level management in the Medical Group to derive a detailed understanding of their business, infrastructure and human capital needs from a systems perspective. The VP of IT is responsible for managing both RWJBH s heritage systems (Cerner Powerworks, Allscripts Touchworks, GE Centricty, and DB Motion) and driving the implementation of the new integrated EHR, Epic. The VP of IT is responsible for assessing content, implementation strategies, and the impact those strategies will have on workflows, policies and operations for their respective programs/applications within RWJBH. In addition to the duties discussed in the Role Description, VP of IT for the Medical Group is responsible for the following:
Strategic and Innovative Development and Design
Providing direction for the strategic development, implementation, and support for their respective programs/applications
Driving assessment of needs and implementation of strategies to link practice guidelines to practice-based electronic medical records systems, including recommendations on future direction for health care informatics within the organization
Managing and directing the development, the design and build of their respective programs/applications including overall content and integrated workflows
Providing process and application implementation subject matter knowledge
Providing guidance on governance decisions and on defining roles and responsibilities
Strategic Management of Medical Group Initiatives
Strategic oversight of Medical Group IT Site Director and IT Ambulatory team who manage and implement the day-to-day tracking of area-specific content and integrated development of project milestones in every phase
Ensuring quality and timeliness of final deliverables achieved by Medical Group IT
Participating in change control reviews and change approvals for their respective programs/applications
Reviewing and approving actions related to quality or risks associated with implementation for their respective programs/applications
Identifying and providing support in resolving integrated issues across the applications slated for implementation and post-implementation sustainability.
Resolving escalated issues that may arise during the project and appropriate collaboration and communication with Medical Group stakeholders
Facilitating respective Epic governance group(s) with Operational Ambulatory Program Manager
Coordinating with the other VPs, Medical Group stakeholders, program leads, governance groups and integrated workgroups on cross-functional content and workflows
Maintaining ongoing communication and collaboration with the IT Project Director and Steering Committee, including decisions, escalations, status reports, and change orders
Maintaining ongoing communication and collaboration with the Medical Group CMIO and the Senior Operational Leaders of the Medical Group including timeline, sequencing, and operational readiness approach
Managing relationship with Vendor resources for their respective programs/applications
Providing leadership, support and management for team leads and project resources
Managing application team leads and resources, including conducting team leads and resources performance evaluations
Identifying and fostering talent in all team members
Adaptability/Flexibility: Demonstrating flexibility with respect to changing end-user business needs.

Bachelor s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience required.
Master s degree in Health Care, Information Technology, Business, or related field preferred.
Minimum five (5) years project management experience implementing clinical information systems and/or large-scale and complex enterprise-wide initiatives in an ambulatory setting; Ten+ (10) years preferred.

Experience in Epic EMR required
Licenses and Certifications
Applicable certification in one of the ambulatory applications preferred
