Overview The Chaplain incorporates the spiritual and emotional dimensions of human development into ones practice of care and reflects a working knowledge of different ethics theories appropriate to ones professional context. Additionally, the Chaplain is the spiritual care specialist of the care team responsible for assessing spiritual care needs and providing direct spiritual care and consultation to patients, families and staff. Within the Spiritual Health Services (SHS) department, the Chaplain serves as a preceptor and mentor to students (e.g., Clinical Pastoral Education residents and interns), along with SHS volunteers, who are authorized to provide ministry on behalf of Fairview. The Chaplain works with other members of the interdisciplinary team to identify and respond to spiritual and emotional needs and is attune to notice the relational dynamics and ethical principles at play in the clinical and professional setting.
