Overview As a Manager of Spiritual Health Services, the individual will oversee the day to day operations of Spiritual Health Services (SHS) personnel at designated locations of M Health Fairview. Responsibilities/Job Description - Work collaboratively with the System Director of SHS, SHS Staff, CPE Faculty, CPE students, facility leadership, and community clergy to coordinate and provide effective spiritual health support to patients, families, and facility staff.
- Successfully oversee the day to day operations of Spiritual Health Services personnel at specified M Health Fairview locations.
- Actively seek out trends and best practices in the individuals area of responsibility, finding ways to integrate learning into work and practice.
- Available to provide spiritual care and consultation to patients, families, and staff.
- Support core tenets of cultural humility, diversity, interfaith chaplaincy, research, and reflective practice.
- Responsible for key components of the SHS team, helping to vision, plan, develop and promote the provision of quality and research informed spiritual care.
- Use ones own professional authority as a spiritual care provider through direct spiritual care for patients and families based on assessment of spiritual needs in clinical assignment and during assigned on-call shifts.
- Advocate for patients and families as it related to the provision of spiritual and emotional care.
- Triage and manage crises in the practice of spiritual care.
- Promote the integration of spiritual care into the life and service of the institution in which one functions.
- Promote, facilitate, and support ethical decision making.
- Demonstrates ability to provide effective leadership, adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served, including spiritual/religious informed care or service.
- Exercises skillful listening, compassionate presence & clear communication in one-on-one, small group, care conferences, and team meetings.
- Provide orientation and education for health care staff.
- Participate in regular meetings of the department and assigned clinical areas, including interdepartmental work.
- Provide triage/short-term support to members of the health care staff in support of their spiritual and emotional care, particularly in relationship to their care for patients and overall staff health. Collaborate with EAP in conducting crisis debriefings and encourage staff to access EAP staff for self/family care needs.
- Foster an environment of trust among staff and as a part of the larger SHS system department.
- Engage with positivity and a clear demonstration of respect for others and their cultures, values, beliefs, and perspectives.
- Foster connections across work groups to drive organizational goals and support the success of others.
Qualifications Education - Graduate degree in Theology from approved theological seminary/university, or completion of training in mentored religious tradition as defined by that religious tradition
- Four units of clinical pastoral education
Experience - 5 years experiences as a chaplain in the acute care setting
License/Certification/Registration - Board Certification in one of following organizations: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association Canadienne de Soins Spirituel (CASC/ACSS).
