The Atlanta VA Mental Health Services is responsible for providing a variety of mental health services at various sites throughout the health care system. Mental Health Programs which we are currently recruiting for a senior social worker include Psychosocial, Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC), Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP), Trauma Recovery (TR) General Mental Health (GMH) and Opioid Agnostic Treatment Center (OATC). Senior Social Workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment in the area of mental health. Higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity and variety and be performed by the incumbent. The advanced practice social worker has specialized knowledge of practice typically related to a diagnosis or patient population. The advanced practice social worker can be further differentiated from the independent practice social worker by the incumbent's ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession, provide consultation and guidance to colleagues, role-model effective social work practice skills, teach or provide orientation to less experienced social workers, develop innovations in practice interventions, and provide clinical supervision for social work licensure or certification. The Senior Social Worker independently provides psychosocial assessments and clinical case management services at an advanced practice level to eligible Veterans and their family members to meet biological, psychological, social, and environmental needs. Their health care and psychosocial problems and needs are complex and require a high degree of clinical oversight and creative problem solving. The incumbent is required to interact not only with the patient but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other interdisciplinary staff. Incumbent performs specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness. Incumbent incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veterans, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Other services include, but are not limited to, crisis intervention which may entail coordinating inpatient psychiatric admissions, coordinating welfare checks with local law enforcement departments and mandated reporting to community agencies as needed. The incumbent may be trained to support and/or provide direct clinical services using other technologies, such as, Tele-mental health (VCC). Services are timely, comprehensive, and effectively coordinated with services provided by other health professionals The incumbent has administrative responsibilities and performs direct clinical work demonstrating knowledge and skill in assessment, planning and implementation of interventions for the broad spectrum of problems encountered in a typical general outpatient setting. Incumbent provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans with polytrauma injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, PTSD, substance use and addictions and other serious disorders. The Senior Social Worker is assigned administrative responsibility for clinical program development and is accountable for clinical program effectiveness and modification of service patterns. Some duties are but not limited to such as: Interviews Clients and Conducts Psychosocial Assessments Independently evaluates the client's situation, including the Veteran's reaction and ability to deal with it, and arrives at a reasoned conclusion. Develops psychosocial treatment plans in coordination with interdisciplinary team members, including goals for psychosocial clinical treatment. Provides clinical services to Veterans and family members/significant others in support of the Veteran's treatment. Establishes a continuing relationship with the Veteran, evaluating progress towards goals and adjusting the treatment plan as appropriate. Meets with Veteran to assess accomplishments and re-establish goals. May also be required to provide community outreach as needed. Preference will be given to individuals with certification or experience in evidence-based practice (EBP). Work Schedule: Tour of duty will be determined by management at the time an offer is made.
