Under general supervision, evaluates patients referred for therapeutic recreation plans and implements treatment programs of medically prescribed therapeutic recreation. Plans and implements community out-trips and functional group activities for patients. Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team through team meetings and program planning in order to provide therapy in a holistic manner. Supervises, trains and assists in the evaluation of student interns affiliating in therapeutic recreation. Maintains therapy equipment and advises Senior Recreational Therapist of need to repair/replace equipment. Qualifications: 1. Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in Therapeutic Recreation, or bachelor's degree in a related field with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation.
2. Previous experience working in recreational therapy or related setting preferred.
3. Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or eligibility for certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Must apply for the NCTRC examination within one month of hire into the Recreational Therapist job and sit for the examination within the first six months of hire. If the person does not pass the examination he/she must reapply immediately to take the examination. Failure to pass the examination the second time and achieve certification will result in termination.
