This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The Social Worker functions as a member of a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team and provides outpatient mental health services to Veterans and their families. Social Worker's duty station may be located at the VA Medical Center, an outlying Primary Care Clinic, or the Pahrump Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Clinical Functions: Incumbent is a professional social worker assigned to support Behavioral Health Service programming. Diverse populations and circumstances include acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries, psychiatric, medical and social problems, addictions, common medications and their effects/side effects and medical terminology. Incumbent must possess the knowledge and ability to implement treatment modalities, identify level of functioning, degree of impairment in occupational, social, academic, interpersonal and family, evaluate and assess lethality, perform mental status exams (MSE), identify psychiatric manifestations of various medical and mental health conditions, possess knowledge of the criteria and state laws for legal commitment and involuntary hospitalizations, ability to assess and intervene with patients of suspected abuse and provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups. Social Worker will perform diagnostic assessments and formulate a mental health diagnosis utilizing DSM-5 criteria; provide individual, group, and/or family therapies; responsible for all entries in the electronic medical record including patient encounters and treatment plans, responsible for completion of all assigned clinical reminders. Possesses basic knowledge of treatment modalities, and under supervision, is able to implement clinical treatment modalities in working with individuals, groups, and families to achieve treatment goals. Demonstrates the ability to utilize supportive counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills.
