PURPOSE: Supports the mission of the clinic by providing leadership of the clinical management, health promotion and population health teams in a manner consistent with the clinic’s mission and values, policies and procedures, and professional best clinical practices.
ESSENTIAL CLINICAL FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Medical Officer sets the clinic’s overall standard of care by:
- Providing medical care to patients in a manner that reflects and models People’s mission and values;
- Overseeing the clinical aspects of People’s medical, behavioral health, and dental services;
- Establishing a high standard of professionalism among clinicians;
- Working to optimize patient access, improve patient experience and health outcomes;
- Working with members of the executive team to set realistic productivity and quality improvement goals for the clinical departments and develop plans to achieve those goals;
- Supervising medical, behavioral health, and dental department directors and other assigned staff, including chart reviews, annual evaluations and plans for continuing education;
- Adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
The Chief Medical Officer assures the overall success of the clinic by:
- Supervising the Directors of Population Health, Clinical Quality, and Health Promotion & Community Advocacy;
- Working to create a positive and supportive environment across departments;
- Staffing and providing expertise to the Compliance/Quality Improvement Committee of the Board of Directors;
- Supporting the Peer Review Committee, including reviewing and approving initial and re-appointment of clinical privileges;
- Participating in Executive Leadership meetings and other internal meetings as necessary;
- Representing the clinic at appropriate external meetings;
- Being a leader in the organization-wide commitment to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of an appropriate post-graduate training program.
- Board certification in a primary care specialty or commensurate experience.
- Master’s degree in public health preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of four years work experience in a clinic or multi-disciplinary setting
- Minimum of four years work experience supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records.
- Familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Centers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A commitment to the mission of People’s Community Clinic.
- Thorough knowledge of current theory and practice of medicine.
- Strong team player with proven leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying ages, cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds;
- Fluency in English as well as a second language preferred.
Certificate/License: Current license to practice medicine in the State of Texas; Drug Enforcement Agency certification; Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substance registration; board certification in family medicine or internal medicine or commensurate experience.
