Role Purpose
Interprets for non/limited English-speaking patients and English speaking health care providers in BJH, Children's Hospital and Washington University Medical Center health care environments. Promotes effective care of non-English speaking patients through cultural and linguistic bridging.
Responsibilities
- Assists with operations of unit services and integration with other departments.
- Provides direct interpretation and establishes a communication link between deaf patients, families and English speaking healthcare providers.
- Ensures all written materials given to patients are produced in a language they can comprehend through culturally sensitive translation.
- Provides sensitive service to patients and families experiencing the adjustment process.
- Performs Other Responsibilities as Assigned
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree
- <2 years of experience
