Chief Business Officer - Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences provides inpatient and outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental illnesses. T he major site for inpatient services is the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH). We provide inpatient care to children, adolescents, and adults in the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH), a 106-bed facility on the campus of the Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Outpatient services include the Vanderbilt Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (VAPOC), the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (CAPOC), and several school-based programs.
Our faculty members are also engaged in patient care and the teaching of students and resident physicians at the Nashville VA Medical Center. The neighboring Veterans Administration Hospital, across a small courtyard from our campus, is a training site for our medical students and residents.
Our research portfolio includes clinical, translational and preclinical studies of brain and behavior. The research community at Vanderbilt is ideal for us, with many resources and outstanding faculty.
This position works in tandem with the Chair for Psychiatry and Behavioral Science to meet the strategic, educational, research, and administrative objectives of the department. A high level of professionalism and organization is required as this position will interact with a diverse faculty and staff population as well as leaders and peers across the Medical Center and other academic institutions.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as strategic partner with the Chair, for developing new programs, telehealth options, and regional expansions of services
- Work effectively with key leaders to achieve institutional and departmental objectives
- Ensure accurate data and reporting to support initiatives
- Lead, develop, and retain a strong staff.
- Participate in departmental and institutional meetings and programs as representative of the Chair.
- Ensure that institutional policies and best practices are incorporated into all aspects of the department.
- Collaborate closely with providers and Finance to ensure appropriate billings and reimbursements for services.
- Ensure that budgets and financial goals are developed and monitored so that margin targets are achieved
- Ensure a diverse and inclusive workforce to support the department and those we serve.
- Create an organizational culture that provides a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees and provides a qualified, competent staff.
- Provide sound personnel and payroll administration to ensure internal salary equity within the department.
- Develop and implement a fiscal program based on long range plans and forecasts of needs and costs.
- Serve as Chief Business Officer for the department; function as the contact point regarding departmental fiscal and administrative matters.
- Recommend distribution and allocation of general department resources.
- Formulate and administer policies and procedures for management and maintenance of physical plant.
- Make space allocation and equipment purchase recommendations.
- Consult and coordinate with VUMC services for upkeep, renovation and other services.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelors' degree and a minimum of seven years demonstrated strategic management experience including budgets, financial reports and ability to navigate and interface with multiple departments in the organization and supervising direct reports.
Preferred experience and skills:
- Candidate should have a background in administrative leadership of mental health services; telehealth experience helpful
- Advanced degree in business or health services preferred
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated administrative leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills
- Professional work style with high level of problem-solving skills
