The Social Work Supervisor in the Mental Health Clinical Center provides Evidence Based Therapy using Telemental Health modalities and supervises social work therapists and social work associates across all VA Maryland Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. I am a past, current, upcoming VHA Health Professional Trainee (HPT) graduate who has successfully completed or is expected to successfully completed an affiliate sponsored or VA sponsored training program and on track for meeting the requirement at the time of appointment. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. Licensure. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Social Worker, GS-13 Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. (d) Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. (e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service. ["Major duties includes but is not limited to: Serves as the VAMHCS Social Work Supervisor,13 grade, to all social work and social work associate staff at the VAMCHS Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and provides clinical treatment to patients via Telemental Health. Supervises staff work across all VAMHCS CBOCs including Fort Meade, Glen Burnie, Eastern Baltimore County, Cambridge, and Pocomoke covering the entire State of Maryland and supervision would be both virtual and in person, requiring travel across the State. Completes monthly chart reviews, compile resulting data, and submit data to the Community/Integrative Services Program Manager and to the Chief of MH Social Work for the purpose of OPPEs. Participates in program evaluation. Responsible for timely completion of all clinical documentation as required by the medical center. Provides direct evidenced based therapy services to veteran patients using the Telehealth Equipment. Modalities may include, but are not limited to, general supportive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Training. Performs specialized treatment of mental conditions or illness, incorporating complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with specialized needs including polytrauma injuries, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions or other serious disorders. Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and design changes based on empirical findings. Offers consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills. Possess the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications Responsible for subordinates practice, performance evaluation, time and leave, and ongoing professional development. Practices at the advanced level and has specialized Knowledge of practice typically related to the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.
