The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for a Senior Social Worker to be part of the Mental Evaluation Team-VMET. This position requires the incumbent to have a valid driver's license and comply with VA government vehicle driver training and requirements. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. U.S. Citizen English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to the social worker position GS-0185 series in the VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Preferred experience: at least 2 years' experience working with homeless and seriously mentally ill populations Grade Determination Requirements GS-12: Senior Social Worker Experience and Education. The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, KSAs. In addition to the experience listed above, candidates must be able to demonstrate all the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, KSAs. 1) Skill in range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. 2) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation or in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. 3) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. 4) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. 5) Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. The employee typically drives a vehicle, walks around various facilities/settings, visits patients, frequently stands and sits while working. Light exertion required when walking, standing, bending or climbing stairs, while carrying light items such as papers, books, laptop, small objects or driving. Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time and lift 20 pounds. Ability to complete and pass a Basic Life Support, BLS course is a position requirement. ["The duties for the Senior Social Worker as a Mental Evaluation Team-VMET member include, but are not limited to the following: Serves as an outreach specialist and case manager for the VMET program. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing outreach services to to homeless Veterans, triaging needed services, providing crisis assessment & intervention, coordinating care and linking care to resources, managing cases, performing community networking & advocacy, building community relationships, & identifying resources. Requires specialized knowledge working with homeless and seriously mentally ill populations. Assess and apply outreach techniques and be able develop new outreach techniques to reach populations to provide care and support. Be able to apply qualitative and quantitative methods to access and improve program effectiveness and advocate the special needs of this population in addition to being familiar with Social Work principles and theoretical concepts. Uses and applies VA benefits and other government program entitlements for treatment and rehabilitation services. Has comprehensive knowledge of administrative laws, policies, regulations, and resources available to disabled, including community resources and services and local peer counseling programs or groups. Refers Veterans to appropriate VA and/or other government/community services including local shelters, food banks, employment services, & Veteran's benefits. Makes adjustments to the psychosocial interventions based on the changing needs of the Veteran and their responses responses to interventions. Identifies & effects changes in methods & interventions to promote efficient practice & improve patient outcomes. Coordinates card including serving as an advocate on behalf of Veterans to ensure comprehensive service delivery, & linking & referring Veterans to the VA Medical Center, VA Regional Office and/or other community agencies. Engages in coordination with agencies, organizations, & groups to learn of services or resources available for homeless Veterans & provide current information on VA services & benefits. Provides direct mental health & substance abuse services for Veterans & family members or significant others in support of Veteran's treatment. Gives advice, guidance, emotional support and other assistance & provides individual & group counseling services and crisis management services to maintain the Veteran's safety in their community. Documents patient & family contacts in Veteran's medical record/CPRS. Understands disparate values & is able to reach Veterans & families from different social & ethnic groups while communicating confidence in Veteran's ability & worth, helping to address problems, & utilizing larger support systems. Develops working relationships with community organizations. Participates in program planning, development, and evaluation. Is responsible for advising/recommending changes to supervisor based on shifting trends with caseloads & identifying need for program policies or procedural changes Performs other duties as assigned.
