Student Counseling Services is recruiting a Master’s Level Counselor with training and experience working with Veterans and their dependents. This is a 10-month, full-time position. This position is a new hire, specifically created to increase services for veterans and their dependents.
The CWU community is home to students from a wide variety of backgrounds and identities, including a 40% BIPOC student body, strong LGBTQ+ community, and international students from over 50 countries. As a regional access university, Central supports a high percentage of first-generation students in obtaining a 4-year degree and 40% of our students are Pell eligible. Approximately 3% of our nearly 10,000 students are veterans or a family member of a veteran. In addition, CWU has active Army and Air Force ROTC programs. Student Counseling Services enjoys a close relationship, in particular, with our Army ROTC program.
The successful candidate will provide direct clinical service, general outreach and consultation, and be supported with dedicated time for creating intentional liaison relationships the Veterans Center, ROTC programs, and our student Veteran’s Club.
As a state university, employment at CWU may be counted toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness program service years.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s in mental health counseling, counseling, or other terminal graduate degree in a related field that allows for licensure under Washington RCW 18.225.
In accordance with Washington RCW 18.225, the ability to be licensed in Washington State at the independent or associates level as a mental health counselor, OR ability to be independently licensed as an Independent Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist in Washington State.
Training and experience working with active members of the military or military veterans (practicum and internship experiences are applicable)
Commitment to social justice and ability to work effectively with minoritized communities.
Ability to provide brief, focused, effective counseling.
Experience providing risk assessment and crisis response.
Ability to provide some afterhours work on an as-needed-basis and counselor-on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of counseling experience as a licensed or licensed associate professional.
Keen sensitivity to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability differences, socio-economic status, etc., and a commitment to the work of anti-racism.
Ability and willingness to engage in difficult dialogues related to anti-racism and social justice as it pertains to providing culturally competent service delivery and intern training.
Experience providing outreach, liaison development, or partnership building across departments.
Experience providing group psychotherapy and/or facilitating support groups
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.
Ability to respond quickly and effectively to uncertainty and frequent changes.

CWU is located in historic Ellensburg, one of the richest and most diverse agricultural regions in the world, including vibrant wine and micro-brew industries.
