Job Description
Adoption Social Worker
Reports to: CPAAL (Child Placing Agency Administrator)
General Responsibilities: The Adoption Social Worker will oversee the adoption process for each New Life Adoption client participating in an adoption plan.
Specific Responsibilities of Director of Adoption Services:
Perform any case management activities, including the assessment of birth families’ needs and assist in connecting with necessary resources.
Provide pre-placement and post-placement counseling with birth families and adoptive families.
Guide birth parents through the legal process and placement paperwork.
Facilitate quarterly support groups for birth parents.
Develop and update service plans for infants and birth parents.
Stay abreast of Minimum Standards for Child Placing Agencies in Texas and appropriately apply and fulfill the legal and necessary requirements.
Provide orientation to, assess, and approve foster and adoptive families through home screenings.
Conduct quarterly foster home visits with foster families.
Serve as a liaison between birth families and adoptive families in communicating before placement, at the hospital, and after placement.
Coordinate with hospital social worker and nursing staff about the hospital’s process in navigating adoptive placements.
Administer monthly post-placement supervision visits with adoptive families.
Facilitate adoptive family and birth mother visits.
Consult with agency attorney when necessary.
Assist in planning and presenting Adoptive Family Seminars.
Provide counseling for adoptee search and reunion when necessary.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate social work employees, depending on qualifications.
Serve as a representative of NLA through speaking engagements, trainings, and networking.
Perform other reasonable tasks relating to the mission of New Life as assigned by the CPAAL, the Executive Director, or Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other Human Services field, required
Master’s Degree in Social Work, preferred
One year of child placement experience, preferred
Willingness to pursue Child Placing Agency Administrator License, if not currently held
Computer proficiency
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
