These positions are located in any inpatient unit requiring the services of the contact observation technician (COT), of the Emergency Medicine Service Line under the supervision of a registered nurse. The primary purpose of the constant observation technician is to provide direct, continuous observations for patients in inpatients units for the care of patient needs. Physical Requirements: This position requires considerable walking, bending, standing, lifting, and handling of equipment and supplies of 35 lbs or more. Work is performed on a patient care area where there is regular and recurring exposure to infectious and contagious diseases through frequent contact with blood and body secretions. Exposure to odors and other risks, as well as other diseases will require special health and safety precautions such as wearing protective clothing, gloves, masks or face shields. Provides observation of patients while traveling to and from clinical units, clinics, and ancillary departments of the medical center and other off-station appointments. Acts as liaison between the nursing staff and families in the waiting room. Acts as a greeter to visitors and families and answers the telephone when needed.
